Mumbai: A porter has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in an empty coach of a long-distance train at Mumbai's Bandra Terminus, police said.

The incident took place late Saturday night, and the police apprehended the accused soon after receiving the complaint.

According to a railway official, a middle-aged woman and her son arrived at Bandra Terminus on an outbound train on Saturday night. After disembarking, the woman boarded another train at the far end of the platform.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) stated that the train the woman and her son had boarded was empty at the time, except for a porter who was present inside. An FIR was registered based on allegations that the porter raped the woman before fleeing the scene.

Following the assault, the woman approached the Bandra GRP station and lodged a complaint. Acting swiftly, the railway police reviewed surveillance footage from multiple cameras and successfully tracked down the accused, arresting him immediately.

"We are investigating the circumstances that led the woman to board another train after arriving at Bandra Terminus," a railway police official said.

A case of rape has been filed against the accused porter under the relevant provisions of the law. The police further stated that an investigation is underway to gather more details about the incident.
