RAJKOT : A private hospital in Rajkot has come across a case of gross violation of women's privacy. CCTV video of women undergoing gynaecological treatment went viral on social media. A case has been filed against the police.
Ahmedabad's cybercrime branch said all the videos shared on YouTube and Telegram were captured from a CCTV camera in the hospital's outdoor department.
All these videos were posted on a YouTube channel called 'Megha MBBS' last month. Some of Telegram's genders were included with the videos, with subscription offers to allow viewers to access additional content. All these videos are said to have received more than 5 lakh views.
Videos of multiple women were uploaded on YouTube and also shared on Telegram, said the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Wing, which is investigating along with its Rajkot counterparts.
After the vandalism incident at the hospital, the hospital was brought under investigation.
A police team visited the hospital to collect more information, said Dr. Partraj Singh Gohil (Deputy Commissioner of Crime, Rajkot).
The cybercrime team found that the videos were first uploaded to Telegram in September 2024 and then uploaded to YouTube in January 2025.
The Assistant Police Commissioner of Cybercrime, Ahmedabad, said, "Publication of these videos amounts to a serious breach of privacy. A case has been registered under Sections 66E and 67 of the Act, i.e. Breach of Privacy and Publication of Obscene Material".
State health minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said, "Everything is being considered, whether the hospital's CCTV system was hacked or there was a technical glitch. The government will take a firm decision on the matter only after a thorough investigation by the police."
He also said that CCTV has not been installed in government hospitals to protect patient privacy. And private hospitals have previously been directed to follow the same guidelines.
