A tragic accident in Gujarat's Vadodara late Thursday night left one woman dead and several others seriously injured after a car rammed into multiple vehicles and pedestrians. The accused, 20-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasia, originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was driving the vehicle and has since been arrested.

He denies being drunk at the time and claims that an emergency airbag blocked his view, causing the collision. The accident occurred around 12:30 AM in the Karelibag area, where Chaurasia, allegedly speeding at 120 km/h, struck two scooters, dragging the riders before coming to a halt.

A video from the crash site surfaced, showing Chaurasia appearing intoxicated as he emerged from the vehicle, shouting “another round,” while bystanders attempted to control the situation. Despite the footage and police investigation, Chaurasia maintains that he was only driving at 50 km/h and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Among the victims was Hemani Patel, a woman who had gone out with her minor daughter to buy Holi colors. Patel died on the spot, while her child and three others were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Chaurasia was accompanied by his friend, Mit Chauhan, the car's owner and a student at a private university in Vadodara.

Both men were arrested, and Chauhan underwent medical tests to determine if he, too, was intoxicated. While police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash, they have stated that they are awaiting medical reports before confirming if Chaurasia was under the influence.

Senior police officer Panna Momaya confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and that CCTV footage is under review as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities continue to probe the incident, including the exact speed of the vehicle and the role of the second accused, Chauhan.
