Mumbai: The Pune Crime Branch arrested the accused in the Swarga bus depot rape case in Shirur Tehsil of Pune district on Friday.
The name of the accused is Dattatraya Ramdas Gade.
It has been informed by the police that the accused have been arrested from Shirur Tehsil and kept in the present Lashkar police station.
According to sources, the victim was waiting for a bus to return home to Phaltan, about 100 km away, after completing his work.
Police said the incident took place around 5:30 am when it was almost dark.
Allegedly, the victim was waiting for her bus when the accused approached her and told her that the bus had arrived at another platform.
The accused person has a criminal record of many cases in Ahlyanagar, Pune district, such as theft, robbery, and six cases of chain snatching. 2019 bail for one of these offenses.
13 police teams were deployed by the police authorities to nab the suspect, and a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced for any information about the accused.
Police used dogs and drones to scan sugarcane fields on Thursday.
In view of this incident, state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik ordered an inquiry against the traffic superintendent and Swargate depot manager.
Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra Chief Minister) sacked 23 security guards from the Swargate depot and appointed a new security axis.
Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar personally directed the Pune Police Commissioner to look into the case and arrest the Abhinandan accused. He said, "The incident of the rape of our sister at the Swargate bus stand in Pune is very shameful and painful for every member of civilized society. This crime committed by the accused cannot be condoned in any way, and the punishment cannot be anything other than the death penalty.
