Bhubaneshwar: The crime took place in sundargarh district on December 7, days after kisan was released on bail on December 4. he has been previously arrested under POCSO Act in august. A minor who helped Kisan disposing the body has also been detained.
According to Inspector General Himanshu Lal, Kisan lured the survivor to a secluded place on National Highway-143, where he murdered her after failed attempts to convince the victim to change her statement. he slit her throat. In order to cover his tracks, he then dismembered her body, stuffed the parts into separate bags, and disposed them off across various locations, including the Brahmani river near Balughat, Gadiatola, and nearby water bodies, covering a span a 20-kilometer radius.
The police exposed the crime through AI-assisted CCTV footage, which helped tracking the survivor’s last movements. The footage showed her traveling on a motorcycle with two individuals. Investigators also traced phone calls between Kisan and the survivor. SP Smit Parmar told that the accused took extensive precautions to remain undetected
including changing the motorcycle's number plate and wearing a helmet throughout the journey. "The CCTV footage did not show any signs of the girl being forced, indicating that the accused may have convinced her to accompany him," Parmar said.
The survivor moved to Jharsuguda after the initial rape incident and was working at a beauty parlor while staying with her aunt. Her family reported her missing on December 7.
During the investigation, it came to light that she became pregnant during her relationship with Kisan and had undergone an abortion after he refused to marry her. Brijesh Rai said Kisan had tried to persuade the survivor to withdraw her statement but failed. When she refused, he resorted to killing her.
The remains of the victim have been recovered in a joint operation by the Rourkela and Jharsuguda police, with support from ODRAF teams, and have been sent for forensic examination at the Sundargarh district headquarters hospital.
