A police officer said, a 38-year-old Nigerian undertrial prisoner was found hanging in his cell at the Raipur Central Jail on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Patrick UBK Baoko, who was arrested in 2020 for drug trafficking.

According to police sources, Baoko committed suicide using a scarf in his cell. But no suicide note was found from the place of her suicide.

"Around 1 pm information was received from the jail that Baoko had committed suicide in his own cell," said city superintendent of police Keshri Nandan Nayak.

He also said Baoko was found hanging inside the room with his scarf tied to a ventilation rod.

According to preliminary information, Baoko could not communicate with other prisoners due to his lack of knowledge of the local language. Being Nigerian he can only speak English.

Police said that Baoko's medical history will be examined to investigate in detail.
