The body of a 20-year-old engineering student was recovered from the hostel room of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening.

That student's name is Prakriti Lamsal. She was doing BTech in Computer Science at university. After preliminary investigation, the police personnel said that it was a case of suicide. The police arrested his classmate in the university who was involved in this incident. After interrogation, an FIR has been registered under the heading of abetment of suicide.

A team of police personnel visited the hostel and sent the body to Capital Hospital for post-mortem.

Angry students from Nepal laid siege to the KIIT campus and alleged that the authorities did not take any action on the matter despite complaining to the university's international relations office about harassment of batchmates.

But on the other hand, KIIT's Registrar Gyan Ranjan has informed that the student has taken such steps due to relationship tension.

The university student with whom the deceased was said to be in a relationship has been taken into custody by the police for questioning. It is believed that the student took this step due to problems with the said student.

Police have been deployed to restore normalcy in the university campus.

All international students from Nepal were ordered to vacate the university campus on Monday, declaring it "indefinitely closed.". More than 500 students from Nepal were asked to board a bus and dropped at various railway stations from where they could return to their homes.

The incident created a stir among students in Nepal, which led to a discussion with the university administration, after which the students returned to their respective homes. The university has informed that the police have started an investigation into the incident.
