Kottayam: There has been a fresh incident of ragging in a government college in Kerala. Where the third-year nursing students used to torture their juniors brutally, mentally and physically, for months.

Since last November, six first-year students have allegedly been subjected to brutal ragging in the hostel. Senior students used to hit them in various ways, like with compasses and other sharp objects, to hit different parts of their bodies.

The accused used to strip their juniors and force them to swing dumbbells from their private parts. The knife was struck by the compass of the geometry box. Seniors used to extort money from their juniors to buy liquor and forced them to drink.

They even threatened the juniors not to disclose these incidents to the college authorities, saying they would ruin their academic future if they disclosed these incidents to the college authorities.

But the students could not bear it anymore and finally reported the matter to the college authorities, and later the college authorities reported the whole matter to the police.

The five accused students have currently been arrested by the police and are expected to be produced before a magistrate on Wednesday afternoon.
