Korba: A 16-year-old hill tribe girl was gang-raped and her father and younger sister were also killed.
On Monday evening, the court sentenced the five accused to death, terming the incident as one of the rarest of cases. During the trial, Mamata Bhojwani said, "It is an inhumane and cruel act, the killing of innocent and vulnerable people to satisfy greed has shocked the collective consciousness of the entire society." They have no choice but to opt for the death penalty exception instead of the general rule of life imprisonment. "
The victim's family was very poor and used to herd cattle in Satrenga village of Lemru area. The owner promised to give 8 thousand rupees and 10 kg of rice in return. But in return he gave them only 600 taka and 10 kg of rice. Unable to support the family, they left home on January 29.
The Korwa family had a sixteen-year-old girl and the other was only four years old when they were standing at the bus stand when a man came on a bike and told them that he would drop them off. Hearing that, the father and two daughters left on a motorcycle and after going some distance, the person dropped the three people in the forest above the middle. There were five other accomplices of the accused who thrashed the father and two daughters with stones and sticks and dumped them in the forest before fleeing from the spot.
A missing report of a 16-year-old girl and her four-year-old sister was lodged at Lemru police station on February 2. After filing the report, the police swung into action and arrested 6 accused on the same day.
Based on the statement of the accused, when the police reached the crime scene, they found the injured rape victim alive and the other two lying dead. Police rushed him to a local hospital, but he died on the way.
The accused offenders were booked under IPC Sections 302 (Murder) 376(2) G (gang-rape) and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The hearing will be held on Monday in Korba's fast track court.
