The Gen Z and Gen Alpha are often mocked by the other generations for not being able to accomplish the simplest of tasks such as writing a letter or driving a Manual car.All these accusations might be considered excusable as they are indeed part of a different generation from different times with more easier services.

However recent reports have shown light on the fact that they are now unable to read analogue clocks now,an accusation no doubt which will result in a lot of mockery and trolling towards the younger generations.

British school officials have begun removing traditional clocks from exam halls as students have been complaining that they can't read them. Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders in England, acknowledged the shift, attributing it to the prevalence of digital technology.

"The current generation aren’t as proficient at reading traditional clock faces as older generations,” Trobe stated. “Nearly everything they interact with displays time digitally, reducing their exposure to analogue clocks.” A report from the Times Educational Supplement, a publication for educators in the UK, highlighted concerns from teachers who observed that many high school students—particularly those in Year 10, Year 11, and sixth form—struggle to tell time without digital devices.

“It is astounding how many students I encounter who cannot read an analogue clock,” one educator noted at a London conference. “We are increasingly reliant on digital technology, and students no longer wear traditional watches, instead relying on their mobile phones for the time.”

The decision to remove clocks has drawn sharp criticism on social media, with many arguing that schools should focus on teaching students this fundamental skill rather than eliminating the need for it.

“Teaching them should be the solution instead of removing the clocks,” one user remarked.

Another questioned the role of educational institutions in adapting to such challenges: “Then teach them. I mean, you are THE SCHOOL.” Others lamented the impact of smart technology on traditional skills: “Smartwatches have robbed an entire generation of the beauty and class of classic timepieces.”

Meanwhile, some framed the decision as an abdication of responsibility: “UK schools: We’re too lazy to educate the kids even though that’s our whole thing… so let’s just remove the clocks entirely."
