New Delhi: After more than 26 years, the BJP extended its ocher footprint in the country by ousting the Aam Aadmi Party from the national capital.

Earlier in the week, during the counting of votes for the 70-member assembly elections, the Election Commission's website showed the results with the BJP leading in 48 seats and the AAP in 22. Senior AAP leader from Jangpura and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has accepted defeat. And party chief Arvind Kejriwal, on the other hand, is likely staring at defeat from New Delhi.

Born out of the anti-corruption movement in 2013, the face of this party has been full of tension between its constituency wins and losses. As soon as the morning came, Kejriwal went backwards. BJP's Parves Saheb was trailing by 1,170 votes after nine rounds.

Sheila Dixit's son, Sandeep Dixit of Congress, was third with 2,812 votes.

After jailing Chief Minister Atishi Kejriwal, his constituency, Kalkaji, was trailing by 3,231 votes, but Kejriwal's trusted deputy, Manish Sisodia, led his constituency, Jangpura, by 20,838 votes.

It was a dramatic fall for the team. Those who contributed 67 out of 70 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020 have now got less than half of the seats. Promises of free water and electricity in model schools seem to have lost their luster to many.

BJP National Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said, "All these trends show that people still have faith in the policies of the BJP led by Chief Minister Modi. It shows that the vulnerable people of Delhi have faith in Modi's guarantee and are ready to stand by the 'Bikshit Bharat Sankalp.'". It does not matter who the chief minister will be.

Virender Sachdev, who is the Delhi president of the party, said that the next Chief Minister of Delhi will be from the BJP, but it will be decided by the central leadership.

According to Sachdev, BJP candidates work with dedication. He asserted that the BJP would form a 'double engine government' in Delhi. "We have no hesitation in saying that this victory is the result of the Prime Minister's vision."

Excited party workers cheered at the party headquarters as they eagerly waited. They waved flags and shouted slogans. Jubilantly, they held cutouts of the team's symbolic lotus and painted each other ocher.
