India, now the world’s most populous country with over 143 crore people, is often hailed as a developing nation due to its massive young population. One would assume that with such numbers, the government would be promoting family planning measures or distributing free birth control.

However, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken a different stance, arguing that India’s population should rise. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Lok Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh, K Appala Naidu, has now backed this viewpoint by announcing incentives for families having a third child in his constituency.

He announced on 8th March,2025, that families welcoming a third child will receive a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 if it is a girl, while those having a boy will be given a cow and a calf. “If the third child is a boy, we will give a cow and a calf. If it is a baby girl, we will make a fixed deposit of ₹50,000. The Indian population has to rise,” Appala Naidu stated. His announcement, made on Women’s Day, was reportedly influenced by the women in his life, including his mother, sisters, wife, and daughters.

This move aligns with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s recent comments advocating for population growth. He argued that the government and finance commission should support population expansion rather than penalizing regions with aging populations.

He explained how his insight into the ‘aging problem’ has started in South India. He pointed out that only two states—Bihar and Uttar Pradesh—still have a demographic advantage in North India. Naidu also clarified that population management should not be linked to delimitation policies, stressing that with proper demographic planning, India’s economic sustainability can be maintained.
